A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. Talking

1944 (late war) "DOT" K98kicon Mauser

All matching right down to the firing pin and all correct. Bluing is around 95% or better. Bore is perfect. No duffle cut.

"aw" serial number is right in the middle of the transition period when rods were omitted and small parts still serial led, but this stopped shortly after the end of the 2-letter suffix. Hand guards penciled and stock channels stamped. Stocks ceased to be numbered in any way shortly after this as well. Lock screws also disappeared shortly after this. It's an early transitional piece on the way to the KM (Kriegsmodell). In addition, finish sanding of the wood ceased around this period as well. (Feedback by John P from GK43 Boards)

A U.S. import that I'm hoping to see arrive before end of this month. I'd hate to see it have to be import marked under this new useless U.N. agreement that Canadaicon has agreed to and comes into effect Dec 1st.

    Thumbs up

Lets all hope that this one does not end up with some awful import markings on it! That would be simply outrageous!!!

With that said, absouloutly stunning dot44 Badger. Very very nice find.

Ive been spending a wee bit as well. Bought a couple of k98k's off Claven, what a salesman this fella is. Also bought some reproduction high turret scope mounts and rings for my little project. As well as a shooters kit for a g43. And last but not least; 10 mid-late war 12-1/2inch cleaning rods for the k98k. 10 rods for the low low price of 220 USD shipped. If your a mauser collectr and need rods let me know and ill give you the email of the seller.

I picked up a decent Danish return M1icon, 2.98mil SA (July 1944) with a 1961 VAR bbl, everything else is period-correct WW2 SA including an uncut op rod and lock-bar sights.

I suspect this one was not rebuilt prior to going to Denmarkicon & they just swapped out the bbl.

    Two more Lithgow SMLEs

    G'day folks,

Picked up a 1940 No1 MkIII and a 1943 No1 MkIII* this month. I'm trying to find a spread of examples of Lithgowicon's WW2 production, showing the gradual changes which took place throughout the war. I now have examples from 1940, 1941 and 1943.

    Cheers,
    Matt

I like your 1940 Lithy. Would it be safe to say the forearm is a replacement? I'd have thought it would be queensland maple like the handguards and butt.

Looks like a coachwood replacement to me. The rifle was covered in badly-done shellac which had turned almost black. The previous owner spent alot of time carefully removing it and did a top job. So it would appear that the forestock was replaced a long time ago. I have a spare Queensland Maple forestock, but it is WW1-dated, so I'm not too sure about replacing one incorrect forestock with another incorrect forestock at this stage.

    Cheers,
    Matt
