    Knob Creek

I decided to start the weekend off early this morning by driving down to the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot in West Point, KY. It was a fantastic day, I was able to spend some time talking to Brian Dickicon and his lovely wife Tina, and I picked up a '42 Long Branch and three LB slings that Brian was holding for me.

The shoot itself was great, but it does not compare to spending time with Brian and Tina and walking away from the shoot with an Enfield in hand. I'm sure some of you are getting tired of seeing all of the praises on here about Brian, but over the past six months, I have purchase a '42 and '50 LB, a '42 Savage, 3 LB slings, 4 Savage slings, and a Savage magazine, and every transaction was flawless.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. This is a really fun event, which I had a chance to travel down from Canadaicon with Scotta few years ago. We met Brian and Tina there and had a great time. Wonderful people ...

I took some video of the opening MG shoot event, which I thought some of you guys who had never been there might enjoy. Love the way they put out those propane bottles as targets.

Besides the huge display tents with vendors selling everything and anything related to firearms, there's the massive range shoot. Attendees can pay (rent) to shoot everything from old Gatling guns, WW1 Lewis machine guns, WWII 30 and 50 caliber Browning MG's, Germanicon MG34 and MG42's, every automatic rifle you can think of, all the way through to flame throwers and artillery pieces.

Can you imagine crossing Omaha Beach against German MG42's? After you watch this, you can see that the special effects in the first 20 minutes of the move "Saving Private Ryan" aren't far off what must have been the real thing. In the pics below, I think that can of WD40 hanging off the WW1 Vickers was even dated 1917.

    ....

You are making me ill. I was planning on a Friday Saturday trip, but a series of unfortunate events has derailed my plans. Knob Creek is the best show of the year for me, with National Gun Day a not so close second.
Have a great time, and say hello to all of BDLicon Ltd. for me.

Thanks for the kind words Troy. I'm still trying to recover from KCR. The night shoot was late on Saturday because they set the mountain of fire with tracers and flares making for a 20 hour day before we got back in the room. Grueling is an understatement. I'm glad it's only twice a year!
