    Enfield Enforcer 395 range report

    Hello,

I had a chance to take my new acquisition out for a test run the other day, and I am pleased with how it handled. The rifle is an Enfield Enforcer, which is a UKicon police sniper rifle from the 70's and 80's. Enforcers also ended up in other places around the world, such as Hong Kong. There are not many of these rifles left as the police forces often destroyed them instead of allowing them to get into the hands of civilians. I have heard estimates of between 170 and 380 Enforcers still in existence, out of about 500 that were originally issued to police forces. My rifle is #395, which was issued to the Derbyshire police force in the early 70's.

The day at the range way sunny and calm, with a little wind later in the afternoon, probably gusting up to 10-15mph, and a temperature of 66 degrees F. I was shooting out to 200 yards from a sitting position left-handed, with the fore-end resting on a sandbag. The scope is a Pecar 4-10x45 (original to the rifle). The covered over holes just to the right of the bull were from me having a go at 100 yards with the Parker Hale PH5E/4 aperture sight, and the rest of the stickers are covering over holes from some play time I had with my No.4 Mk.1 at 300 yards (I get alot of use out of targets - I am a cheap bugger lol). The grouping low and right is 2" (it was 1 inch until I bloody flinched with the 5th shot lol), and the grouping directly below the bull was also 2" (the 3rd shot went wild this time). With a little effort on my part, I will probably be able to shoot 1/2 MOA with this rifle, and I am not complaining about that! I will get round to properly zeroing the rifle in at 200 yards, then try it out to to 800 yards.

C'mon - you can do better.
Like my old school report :

"Sets himself very low standards which he consistently fails to achieve"

Next time show what 395 can really do.
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Well, I did get 3 rounds within 5/8ths of an inch - I'm trying!!! There's always one...lol. Oh, and the ammunition was standard 7.62 NATO from Winchester, bought from my local Cabelas for $13/box. I will get some match ammo for when I try for the longer ranges. There is a range a little north of me that goes out to 1000 yards, and they have long-range shooting matches out there from time to time.

Its a good start. You at least have something to show- Maybe it'll start a trend!

I must say your target isn't nearly as "used up" as some of mine. There's some that have had 10 or more repair centres taped on top of each other, plus plenty of tape covering the areas surrounding.

I hope it does start a trend - I have no idea of exactly how accurate these rifles can be. On another forum, I mentioned my grouping size at 200 yards, and I was told I was full of poop - go figure! I have looked at Mr. Stevens' Enforcer website at the test target for #172, and I don't think I did too badly, except for the flinching. I have already asked, under a different thread, how accurate Enforcers can be, but without comparison range reports, I really do not have a clue. I will get back out to the range next week, after #395 has been given a good cleaning and a go over with linseed oilicon.

    Was only joking.

With 483 I can get 3 or 4 under an inch (almost a cloverleaf - remember 3 bullet diameters is almost an inch !!!) at 100yds, but then always get one or two 'flinchers'

Once I can guarantee under 1" at 100yds, I'll set up a 200yd range in the 'garden' and see what happens.

    I know you were :P

I have a friend who just so happens to have been a USMC marksmanship instructor, so I will be asking him for help with the flinching. when I am consistent at 200 yards, then I work my way out as far as I can. Expect range reports at different distances, and maybe even a youtube video (if I can work out how the heck to do them...). Please let us know how things go with #483 - it is a beautiful-looking rifle, and it sounds like it has a lot of life left in it.

I should be picking up the new 4T in the next couple of days (now the Police have finally got around to issuing the correct 'authority to purchase' - only taken since end Feb)

I guess the 4T will get most of the 'play-time' for the next few days / weeks.

I've also got an L39 'on hold' which should be coming home middle of May.

Alan, the person who sold me #395 also has #391 for sale, so if I suddenly become rich (or don't mind having a huge charge on a credit card for a while) I may be able to run a comparison between the 2. The seller also has 1 or 2 L39A1s and Envoys for sale (he is a target rifle fanatic, and a really nice guy to boot). I should be in a position to look at his Enfield collection in the next few days, and I will report on it. Your No.4 T looks stunning, by the way

    I regret to announce...

I regret to announce that at 10am this morning, Mickey Mouse suffered from a fatal injury involving multiple 7.62 NATO rounds at 200 yards. The head shots are all over the place as his head kept on flopping around, but the face shot and the group at the left armpit (4 rounds, 1 entry hole covered by material) were good, especially as there were 20mph side gusts. If my 3 year old daughter ever sees this photo, I am dead....
