    Spanish American Cavalry Sword?

    Hello.
My grandfather recently gave me this sword, which he said was given to him by his father. He says its from the spanish american war. I searched for any information on this sword, and found a few that were close, but nothing exact. From what i can tell, its close to a M1872. There is what I pretty sure is the manufacture name and address on the blade just under the handguard, E.A. Armstrong Mfg. Co. 300 Wabash Ave, Chicago, and a bear on the other side of the blade. I have attached several pictures of the sword.
Can anyone help me or point me in the direction of someone that can? Thank you for at least looking.

    Jesse

Well, I'm just looking. Are you sure its not a saber ? (nitpick). I would say an officers dress saber, private purchase. I think an issue weapon would have been pretty plain. I see that design on lots of different ones, it must have been some kind of official pattern. The strange thing is that it does not seem to have a spot to have the owners name engraved.
