A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... "Mellow yellow". Looks like the balsam needs redoing.

These are an Israeli made scope and of not bad quality. No comparison to the Britishicon and Canadianicon 32, but still a decent scope. The movement is such a convoluted bit of kit and made without the use of high tech equipment compared to the 32. Lenses are of decent quality and the scope appears to be robust and sealed well against the talcum powder like sand of the desert. NOTHING of a 32 scope (any MK) will fit the Israeli scope and adjustments are ala Mosin Nagant PU/PEM PE or ZF 4 series scopes...jammed plate.
Once I get the one I have on the bench cleaned up and new lenses fitted I'll do an exploded view and comparison of the Israeli scope and the 32. I've written to the company who made them and still waiting for word back. Originally it was suspected to be Nimrod, but turned out not to be them at all. Apparently a small shop in Tel Aviv and it was about a block away from where I stayed at one time...wish I had known that.
SARCO in the USAicon sold off a pile of the scopes in the late 80's and early 90's. Some new in the can and others in relic to poor condition.
More later as the info comes in.
    Cheers,

As a matter of interest Wheaty, is the optical system the same, with the ocular, erecting system at the focussing point and an OG lens? Are they also x3 magnification too? What about moving wire mechanical adjustment or image moving?

I borrowed one to x-ray several years ago - as a prelude to getting inside on the optical bench/clean room but never got around to it. It didn't fare too well on the light transmission bench either. But whether this was due to what I call 'crusty' lenses or just a bit of fine dust internally, I don't know

Basically similar outward appearance with ocular lenses which are similar in power but not the same OD and read differently on the Geneva gauge: appear 3X, Erector cell looks like a 32 cell but larger, however the diaphragm/sight gradient is much different and I'll do up a photo essay on it in the next week or so. OG is much like a 32 but again larger. Assembly techniques would make installing camel IUD look easy... Spring(s) for the diaphragm tension is one large U shaped flat spring and again the camel is in there...... NOT a nice scope to work on compared to a 32.... plus I have to replace the wire as it got broken since the diaphragm was removed
