    DSM34...Not Exactly a Mauser

I have an ERMA stamped DSM34 that has had the stock cut down and sporterized. Any ideas of where, or even if, I can find a replacement stock. These things are scarce as hen's teeth..as they say.

Hen's teeth are probably easier to find. But are you quite sure that it is a military-style DSM34? If not so stamped and you are not 100% sure, then please post a photo - it may be one of the "civilian" versions of the mini-98 action.

Here's a link to the pics. To the best of my knowledge it is a military rifle, but I don't know for sure. Any info you can provide would be appreciated. It was found sitting in the corner of a barn and rusted pretty badly. Fortunately it cleaned up very nicely.

    Sporter action

Looking at your Photobucket pic. No. 8:
Deutsches Sportmodell = Germanicon Sporter Model.
    - which suggests that the barrelled action was never a paramilitary trainer.

However, looking at "Mauser Bolt Rifles" by Olson, 3rd Edition, P.300, I see several sporter versions of the DSM34 family, all Mauser production (no Erma pics available). And the holes in the butt seem to be in the correct position for the trainer type. Maybe Erma just made them like that, or maybe this is a trainer-type shaft adapted for the sporter - I cannot tell from here.

I just searched for "ERMA DSM34" and found several examples. It looks like Erma did indeed use the same action for all models, so yes, it does indeed seem to be a DSM 34 trainer-type that has been sporterized.

I would not spend time and money in trying to "improve" it - that sort of thing just does not pay. Collectors usually want all-original, not look-alikes, and the form of the shaft is pretty irrelevant for the kind of shooting accuracy you can expect.

I'm not really spending a great amount of time on the issue. Just hoping that someday I can come across a stock or beat up example of an entire rifle that I can take the stock off of. I like the original look better than the sporter and if I can do it economically, I will.

    Thanks for the help.
