    New Stevens 416

I got this at an auction last week. Came without a magazine

The auction description was as follows:

STEVENS Model 416, #NSNV, .22 lr, 26 heavy barrel target rifle with heavy walnut stock and leather sling. Rifle is in good to very good condition overall showing some thinning to the original bluing and mild rust and erosion which"should clean. Stock is in good condition showing normal marks and dings consistent with use. There is a side mounted rear sight, which is missing the aperture, hooded front sight, and scope blocks. NO magazine.

I got a pretty good deal on it, but am a little concerned about the rear sight. It looks like it is incomplete or at least non-standard.

Anyone have any opinions on that?

Anyone have any idea on a source for a magazine?

I'll post better pics when it actually arrives.

    Thanks

The rear sight from the picture looks correct fom the angle of the picture. But post more pictures to be sure. The aperature should be no problem as it is a common size thread. The correct Stvens magazine can be found also. The front sight inserts are a little hard but do show up on ebay at times. I do have couple extra front inserts that I may be talked out of.
Try clipgrip@aol.com 269-962-0214 Dave should have the magazine or at least a after market that seem to work OK.

The reason that I question the completeness of the rear sight is that I've seen a few pictures of the complete sight on the internet and the one on my new rifle appears to be missing the vertical piece that the aperture elevates on. I saw this picture on a closed listing on Gunsamerica:

It may be that the elevator is just not visible in the picture of my 416 or that it is a different style rear sight.

Because of the questions I have about the status of the rear sight on mine, I took an opportunity on AA and bought a complete 416 rear sight

I expect my FFL to have my 416 in a few days and will examine it at that time. When the obligatory "10 day cooling off" period ends, I'll take better pics.

    Thanks

It turned out to be a good thing I bought that complete sight on AA. It turns out that the rear sight is not just missing the aperture--it is missing the whole slide assembly. Basically, the only part of the sight that is still on the rifle is the base and the windage screw.

I'll post additional pics when I mount the new sight
