Alaskan date
I have a Alaskan serial B 5709 what year would it have been manufactured? Could it have been part of a military contact? If so would it be more appropriate on a M1C or a post war rebuild 03A4? thanks

Can't say as I've ever seen anything about manufacturer dates by S/N for scopes. Alaskan's were sold commercially too. Mind you, the Lyman scope was a secondary standard for the 1903A4. The Weaver 330 was the standard for the '03A4. M1D's and C's did use the Alaskan though.
Spelling and Grammar count!

In theory ok for either but:
Probably most approriate for an M1C. Although a handful of M73's (Lyman Alaskans) were used on M1C's Most M1C's and D's were equipped with M81's M82's or M84's.
In 1951 some Alaskans were purchased to meet Korean War requirements for M1C's. This is believed to be the origin of the "B" prefix serial numbers.
By 1956 ordnance issued instructions to exhaust any remaining M73's, M81's or M82's on M1903A4's if necessary.
Regards,
Jim
