We used to train on a very small island off of Okinawa Called Whiskey 174. In between bombing runs we had time off to rest and swim. No matter where you swam the entire ocean floor for as far as I could walk out was covered by all kinds of ordinance. Tons and tons of empty casings and a few, possibly inert, possibly not, still contained their rounds laying everywhere. I never really gave it much thought then but I am sure now that it was dangerous as hell and a stupid thing to do. I grabbed some empty casings as souvenirs but haven't seen them in years. If I come across them again, I will post some pics.

Mud, on Wake / Anyway the piles of cartridges were in knee deep water about 50 feet offshore, high or low tide I dont know.
