    Unmarked Winchester bayonet adaptor???

    Gents,
On leave away from home so I dont have the aid of any of Canfields books. WWII Win 97 shotgun on GB has a " very desirable, unmarked, first pattern, six-hole heatshield/handguard". Same seller claims " I suspect that the receiver MAY HAVE received an arsenal reblue at some point, but it's very hard to say for sure.". His response was because it was SO nice he cant believe it could look so good without being refinished... i tried to explain to him there is no such thing as "Arsenal Reblue", esp after WWII as all rebuilds are parkerized...

Question is has anyone seen an unmarked, first pattern six-hole heatshield???

    Thanks...

Sorry, guess i should add the GB auction. Seems like MANY things wrong with it... Winchester 97 1897 WWII US Trench Gun 12GA : Curios and Relics at GunBroker.com

The "US" marking on the receiver looks bogus.

I know it's a small thing, but his bayonet scales are from a 1907 bayonet and he grooved them. They don't even fit...

Phrogpilot asked: "Question, has anyone seen an unmarked, first pattern six-hole heatshield???"

Early WW2 production Model 97 trench guns were made with unmarked bayonet adaptors and first pattern six-hole heatshields.
