nepal guns in uk?

Hi
has anybody from the UK purchased any Nepal guns from IMA/Atlanta cutlery. Im interested in a gahendra or a brunswick, if I have any trouble it will be hard to sort out eg parts etc. So any advice would help.

Suggest you contact Alex at IMA for details on shipping the guns to UK. Several fellas on Gunboards and British militaria have ordered from IMA in the US and have reported even with shipping and customs the cost has been lower than if bought in UK. All have been very happy with the service they got.

Would take the advice from, TheDoubleD, its not just the shipping and paperwork its when it/they arrive this side, best check on the import duty and Vat to pay on Antique/ obsolete calibre rifles, also you will be charged vat on the shipping costs.

Plenty of dealers in the UK, some are quite reasonable, best deal i,v seen for a while was at birmingham last year, think they were from these guys:

Mk4 Nepal martini,s for £370 or three for a £1000 i bought Three, they had tables full, i was lucky to have a good look at what i was buying but due to so much grease and crud i didnt see a split stock on one, but cant complain, the dealer provided disposable gloves for the anoraks to handle and look over what they were buying.
For any info on what kind of state anything from storage arrives like, have a look at pics on page 2, 7th up from bottom: Nepal Martini,s ( these are by no means mint rifles but are original as they were 100 years ago, and gives you the chance clean up or restore)

Maybe 5% on the rifles but the shipping would be standard rate VAT i think.

I recently purchased one from IMA in the USA. This was a totally unintended purchase. I have been working at my Company for 25 years and as such theyt give you some money to buy a gift. I went through the usual sort of stuff, new TV, surround sound and all that but nothing really struck me as a good gift, and one that would last. I was thinking and thinking with no luck and one morning was sitting down watching TV and guess what was on, ZULU. It was like a Eureka moment - I have always love the film, my dear departed Dad also did and I said years ago that I would like one of those Rifles. So that was it found the rifle on the internet, convinced my Company that I was not purchasing it for anything other than a curio and ordered it.

The best bit was watching the UPS tracking on the rifle moving between authorities and airports and finally ending up on my door step. UPS are great they pay all the extras for you and when they deliver you pay them. It cost a total of £30 on top of the purchase for all the import duty, VAT etc.

OK now the rifle itself, well I am impressed. It looks to me like a British made one (I love doing this research), 1873 MKI upgraded to a MK II. It was sold to Nepal, I have no idea when but I guess around 1894 which means it had a good bit of service somewhere. The guns is lovely, I am so pleased and the bayonet. The cleaning rod is from a MK IV so looking for a MK II now and I purchased a repro sling which really compliments the whole thing.

I am still researching the rifle and am going to make a mount for it soon.

Looks like a nice rifle, was this a cleaned example or an untouched one? am interested myself in one and also a snider 3 band, thought the duty etc would of been a bit heavy but £30 on top, seems very reasonable.
Can you give me an idea on just the shipping charge and approx delivery time etc.

This was one of the cleaned ones.

Shipping was UPS and cost about $80 I seem to recall, then add the duty on top of that. I had to pay another £30 when delivered.

It all added up but at the end of it I am really pleased with it.

A lot of IMA Martinis came into Australia when they first started selling them, some were good, others were so so. For the money I would be looking at buying what I could see. As you can see the 'cleaned' ones are pitted overall, and a lot of the uncleaned are junkers. caveat emptor applies.
