Yep. The mortar kit is set up in my back yard
The mortars that are firing were posted by a buddy in the Czech republic. He is a Mortar Officer in the Czech army.

Had any success in getting it to fire? I understand they were sold "live" as they aren't considered a "firearm" in canada.

It is still "live", I want to get a few of the practice bombs and try it.... still looking for those though.....

Hmm... yeah, not an easy to acquire item. I assume you've tried e-bay, gunbroker, etc.?

I think that 81mm practise mortar bombs are next on the list. Not ideal but will work well enough for what I want...

Whatever you fire, make sure it has the appropriate weight, similar to the real thing. A couple of years ago a friend and myself fired my 2" british mortar from the front driveway. I used an origional but empty para round, and installed an origional ballistite cartridge to propel it. As soon as I fired it, we stood up and looked out into the beutiful blue sky. Never saw it land, and spent the next hour, first walking and then driving out into the field in my M38A1 looking for the round. Never did find it.

It becomes an expensive hobby when you can't recycle the rounds. Still, it was way too much fun to be legal.

Oh yeah, a tip for those in the buying mode who want to test a mortar to see if it's live or not: Do not test for firing pin protrusion with your finger. Randy at K&M did this with mine and got to do the toughguy dance (thats where you dance slowly as if it didn't hurt, while a lttle bit of blood comes out the end of your finger). Instead, place a dime over the firing pin hole and trip the trigger mech. If the dime flies up a couple feet, the firing pin is OK.
