Aussie troops? Just going by that quality sheep sheerers haircut, now the army barber.

Not the least bit surprising though. Douglas MacArthur was interested in one thing and one thing only - Douglas MacArthur!

The muzzle control is also a little scary. The dude walking beside the driver is not someone I would want following me.

Once you do some field time, you learn to trust a man's rifle is made safe. The Thompson is in classic carry position and no one cares. Loaded weapons around you in the field are just a way of life. I used to carry a 1919 A4 Browning that way with a short belt in it and no one flinched. The chamber was empty. I think Mac's jeep is just moving forward though the troops on the road. I don't think he's concerned with them at all. The rifle on the shoulder is clearly a #1 as you can see the muzzle. There's another on the hood with the action cover in place.

That's par for the course. I can't imagine Bill Slim ignoring his soldiers - no matter what.

RJW, A great pic, thanks. My folks described MacArthur as a great military mind with a giant ego and the personality of a dead fish. Additionally I don't think he was ever not ready for a photo op.
