Just starting out. I have two MkIIIs and two early .22s from Lithgowicon. Building a Lithgow collection, don't tell the wife

I had the pleasure of meeting Ian Skennertonicon just this week, his knowledge is a national treasure.

You lucky bugger, meeting Ian Skennerton. Where'd you meet him?

I like you have only started. I have a Lithgow 1919 MKIII* and a No 4 Enfield MKII and are onto a No 5. What's the going rate for a No5 in pretty good condition with all matching numbers?

I'm seeing $600 to $1250, a little like Mosins, most dealers seem to throw another $3-400 on it and fish.

Ian ran his eye over my rifles, I was wrapped to see he lived less than an hour away and he was good enough to give some of his time. He signed my copy of 'The Lee Enfield' too.

Cool, the guy I know who's selling the No 5 wants $500 for it and it's in original condition and looks pretty damn good. He said he still uses it to shoot roos lol. Another one to my collection. I can see this becoming a little addictive.
How lucky are you to have Ian take a look at your collection? and to have him sign his book, too cool.

As long as it isn't hacked up and rusted out $500 is a pretty good price for a No5. Bear in mind that parts, particularly the woodwork can be difficult to get, so if it hasn't been messed around with, it's worth a close look, mate

I had a look yesterday and it's all orginal and in pretty good condition. Bubba hasn't been anywhere near her. No rust and the bore is like new. Out of 100 I'd give it a solid 80.

I just called him and offered him $425.00 and he took. Pick her up later this afternoon.

For sure. He wasn't home when I went to pick it up but he called and said he'll be there after work tomorrow. I think I got a bargain.

The tosser sold it out from under me. I gave him the money and then 2 days later he come around and gave me the cash back and said "he'd sold it to his cousin" I won't use the words that were tossed around but his ears will be burning for a while. I spoke to a few guys at the footy a week later and they said they had the same crap done to them by this guy. I was told to steer clear and I will do so from now on.
In search of a No 5 but about to buy a No 4. Should close the deal this week. Will keep you informed.
