Spotted an L39A1 this weekend

I spotted an L39A1 this weekend. Does anyone have an idea of how much these are selling for in the US at the moment? It appeared to be complete, but I have no idea. The magazine was a 7.62mm type and was unnumbered, and there was that little metal container (?) on the underside of the buttstock for the front aperture sights. The bolt matched the rifle, the wood was in very good condition, and the bore was shiney with good rifling and no obvious flaws. The target sight was the AJ Parker TZ twin zero type, and it had matching numbers (so not one cobbled together from parts). The seller thinks it is an Envoy, but I have not as yet dissuaded him from this opinon. Comments, anyone?

The last two that I saw for sale on the internet sold for $1,500+.

This one was going for a little bit more than that....

I said I would research the rifle for the seller (no way could I afford it), and I think I will be sending him an email to see if he sold it. If he did, then good luck to him. If not, then I might suggest a lowering of the price to a more reasonable value (the least he can do is tell me to stuff off...) He also has a Lee Enfield .22 trainer (not my field of knowledge - looks like a No.1 Mk.III with the charger guide cut off, and comes with a transit box for $1450).

The trainer depending on condition might be a little high but I bet someone will pay the price. I am looking at buying one from a good friend right now for around $1,100.00 and am trying to convince myself to offer him $1,000.00, the problem I have is he is such a good friend and I really don't want to insult him. The .22 is complete with transit case and accessories. A L39A1 at $1,500.00 I think is a very good price, wish I could get a crack at one at that price.

So $2100 might be a little too high right now? The seller said he had some wriggle room, but the only way I could afford the L39A1 right now would be if a rich relative popped off tomorrow - and I like my relatives too much lol.

You can scarcely shift them at all here. No one wants them. If you stripped off the sights and the magazine and sold them on fleabay you'd probably get as much.

The differences in UK and US Lee Enfield market values are astonishing. It was about the same price for me to buy an Enforcer in the UK and have it shipped over here as it was to buy an Enforcer in the US. I did note on one US auction website that they had recently sold an L39A1 for over $3000 - yikes! Maybe I should have had them auction my Enforcer lol. Mk VII, you could always ship your unwanted L39A1s over to the US - they seem to be selling like hot cakes over here.

If we could, they would have gone already.
We've got four of the damn' things sitting in the club locker. Actually they're RIFLE 7.62mm CONV ones that have Parker floating forends on them. Someone's husband make a start on painting a nice coat of high gloss varnish on them because he thought it would make 'em look 'real purty'. He never finished the job before they moved out of town.

Yikes!! Some people deserve a grinding wheel to the scrotum, but I digress....

I went back to the gun show today and double-checked the price on the L39A1 - I must have misread something as the tag read "$2500". Unfortunately it was the only Enfield there even worth looking at (the others were either too beaten up or too bubba'd - or both). The only British .303 ammo was 1949 Indian in two 200-round boxes (in bandoliers and clips) for $109 plus tax per box - no thanks. There was not even a single box of Prvi Partizan .303 - grrrrrr

Why are L39A1s apparently looked down upon in England? Is it because they are "snot" guns ('s not an L42A1, 's not a No.4 T, 's not an Envoy, etc)? Any ideas why?

On an aside, I just spotted a deactivated L42A1 at http://www.deactivated-military-weap...ed-rifles.html - with a 1935 date on the buttsocket, wouldn't this be a trials N0.4 converted into a No.4 T, then later converted to an L42A1, then cruelly deactivated?? I feel like Charlton Heston at the end of "Planet of the Apes"...

A L39.A1 Serial Number A548 was yesterday listed on the Aussie website used guns

It is still for sale today.

$AUD2400 roughly equates to $USD2150 and GBP1395.
