its an except from one of the many sites i was reading/researching a while back , i was taken by the use of words more than the content , it made me feel like i might have been there or speaking with someone who was ,
i believe it was presented as a fictitious entry in a diary ,
there was a book written on the courts martial of custer [ it imagined he had survived ] i read that so long ago i cant remember when that was either , its all fun to imagine
i have read so much on the topic that i no longer recall what was purported to be true and what was admittedly fiction , every time i find something new i read it tho ,
here is something i came accross lately of a factual nature

There is a gentleman named Keith Rush who is an authority on the '73 springfield.
His site is trapdoorsgalore. He is also very interested in the Indian Wars.
A very knowledgeable and helpful guy. I did a search on his site for the manufacture year of my "new" trapdoor
a couple monts ago. He actually called me on the phone and told me the manufacture year and when and to what unit it was issued!
He could be a wealth of information on this one.
Interesting rifle you have!

The leather/decorations on this rifle don't appear to be old. It has the look of something made up for appeal by someone who decided to "Improve" an otherwise run of the mill 1888 trapdoor. I hope you didn't or don't put any special money out for this thing or get suckered into trading for it. Word to the unwise... The military didn't allow any such modification on a Govt. rifle. The whole thing is pretty phoney. Sorry.
