NAZI ammo box with Parachute inside

Can anyone tell me anything about this German ammo crate and parachute? My Grandfather sent it back from Germany during the war. The crate is well made and lined with metal. Anyone know what kind of ammo it held? CJQ stamping meaning? It has kept this silk parachute safe since the war(its been in a tool shed outside forever). Could this be a persons chute or is it a muntions drop one? Included is a pic of the marking on the parachute.

The label says it is 20mm AA ammo.

My guess is the parachute is for the ammo

It's called a door bundle. The ammo would be kicked out of the door of a Junker-52 tri-motor
transport.

That is a real neat find!! The CJG can be looked up as the manufacturer of the box. I do not have my list handy so somebody else may add it.

What model of weapon would fire this 20mm? Some kind of anti aircraft gun i presume? I dont know if the parachute was attached to this box or he just sent the parachute home in this box because it was sturdy. It looks as though he just mailed it as is, his name and APO address is painted on the top in red paint, along with his home address.

When you think it is a Fallschirmjaeger parachute that has survived from wartime, I'd say you have one of a handful. Jumpers weren't necessarily thrifty when it came to safeguarding their chutes after landing. The enemy (and friendlies) wanted the silk for personal scarves against scratchy battledress, and as presents for softer and friendlier skin types. Then there would have been all the troubles of caring and keeping a rather useless piece of fabric all this time. Have you considered donating it to an airborne museum?

Actually it means CARGO parachute.In German a lastwagen is a cargo truck/lorry.The abbreviation in German for an automobile is a PKW(Personenkraftwagen) while a truck/lorry is a LKW (Lastkraftwagen)
