Surplus 5.56

I have been given just under 1000 very dirty red way green NATO 5.56 rounds very dirty and soiled but no corrosion. Not being a complete nutter I will pass on the idea of putting them in my tumbler case cleaner.

Has anyone got any ideas for cleaning them in bulk. And I am not too enthusiastic on pulling them all and starting again.

I don't know why you couldn't tumble them. I've done it with no problems. A tumbler is such low velocity you couldn't possibly ignite a primer in one cart. with the bullet of another. After tumbling though you still have to clean the gritty media off before chambering and firing them. I wouldn't want that stuff in MY polished chamber scratching it all up!

As Emri said use your tumbler to clean them up. Just use it to remove the dirt. You don't have to have them bright and shiney to work properly. Tumbling will not hurt them.

Just dirty but no corrosion? Just use it as it is! We had loads and loads, thousands of similar slightly tarnished belted mobilisation stocks of RG 7.62mm ammo and it operated and fired without so much as a hiccup. You could chrono a few first to see what it's like internally but don't let it scare you....................

Ok going to put some in the tumbler to feed the savage 12vbss and the rest as it is through the AK102 and see what happens.
