    Pictures Disappear when clicked

    Hello,

I'm a new member with a problem and have not been able to find any answers online. When I click on any of the small thumbnail pictures throughout the forum, they disappear. There is a small animated movement like they are going to expand or blow up in size but they just disappear from view. If I reload the page the thumbnails reappear but still can't be viewed in their larger size. I have tried turning off AdBlocker, turning off "Block Popup Windows" and other settings with no change. I am using the latest version of Safari and running the latest version of OS X. I tried to use Firefox to see if it did the same thing but the site locked me out after 3 attempts to log in, saying I had already used up my 5 attempts and to wait 15 minutes. Thanks for any help.

    Hello …

I use OSX Leopard 3.6.10 on a MacBook Pro with both Safari 5.02 and Firefox 3.6.10 with no problems, including using pics.

    You have two problems….

First, you don't seem to be able to remember your password when you're attempting to login (or typing it wrong), which is why it blocks attempts after five times. You'll also get an email sent to your registered email address saying someone is attempting to use your account and they've been blocked for 15 minutes. You should be clicking on the small box (see pic) that says "Remember Me?" when you login, which sets a cookie on your local machine (assigning you permit cookies in your browser) and from then on, you'll be logged in automatically when you visit the site.

Your second problem sounds like a Safari and Firefox configuration problem. You need to permit the use of JAVA code in your browser. See the pic below of Safari preferences and make sure you have JAVA set is being allowed.

Of course, until you make those changes, you probably won't be able to view the pics below, but once you have them adjusted, you should be able to see them, so use this thread as a test until you get it sorted out.

    Hope that helps ...

    Regards,
    Badger

I just discovered that after a picture disappears, if I hit the left arrow key or Escape key, the missing picture pops back into place. Obviously the site is trying to display the picture (probably using flash) but there is a bug in there somewhere.

Thanks for the help but I fixed the problem with the pictures by TURNING OFF both Java and Javascript in Safari Settings.

I had "Remember Me" checked when I signed up yesterday with Safari, it blocked me when I attempted to log in using Firefox, and I may not have typed it correctly at first, but I only hit the login button 3 times. Not 5, so there was more to it than just my misspelling. No worries now, problems solved. Thanks again

    Not on this end ....

I think after almost three years of successfully using the same code for over 13,000 registered users and considering I'm running the same platform and browsers as you, I'd recommend you check the settings to make sure you can store cookies on your local computer and also permit JavaScript execution, which is what drives the pop up pics. I'm not sure why hitting the ESC key or arrow makes any difference, but there is a control panel within pics that are popped up and open, which permits moving from pic to pic, enlarging to full size, starting a slide show, plus exiting back (clearing pop-up), so perhaps that's what you're seeing.

If you want to leave a phone number via PM I'd be happy to call you and see if I can help directly ....

    Regards,
    Badger

Well, that's odd and if JavaScript is actually off, then it definitely won't work at all as pics are dependent upon using it...

Is it possible you're settings are operating backwards to what you think they are set at?

Yes, the message would keep coming up (and counting up) until you hit 5 times, at which point your account would be blocked and you'd get an email. The reason you had to login again when you switched browsers is because EACH browser stores it's own cookies, specific to it. They are not shared across multiple browsers.

Glad you have it working ...

    Badger

    Badger,

I am having the same problem as J.M. Browning was having. I too am running the latest version of Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro with the latest version of Safari (5.1).

Oddly enough, when I turn off Java Script, the pictures will open up for me. If I turn Java Script off, the disappear as he described.

Clicking off Block Pop Ups or Java does nothing. Weird, yes?

    Yes ...

I'm running Safari 5.1.1 on a MacBook Pro and now using Lion OSX ....

It works fine (and always has) with my Safari settings shown in the attachment ....

Regardless, if you have it working with the settings OFF, then all is well as an outcome ..

    Regards,
    Doug
