Savage 720 auto loader trainer

Hello all,
I have a Savage 720 trainer that has a cracked stock and fore end. To make a long story short, I plan on using this gun to go pheasant hunting later this fall and winter. I know, some of you cringe, I just hate using my guns for paper weights and I love the nostalgia of these great old guns in particular. Luckily I'm not dumb enough to go sanding on the original matching stock, but I want a replacement stock that I can at least make functional and pretty it up a bit. I've seen the usual suspects out there but I want a set that I can refinish myself. The catch is that I don't want to spend $200 on a set of furniture. I don't mind if it's ugly, I just don't want to pay a premium for someone else to do the work when I can do it myself. So I was wondering if anyone knows if the stock from a Model 11 will fit on a Savage 720 since their parts are more plentiful. I know an A-5 stock will NOT fit on a 720. Not even close. The fore end will though. But I'm not sure about the Model 11. Anybody know the DEFINITIVE answer to this? I've read a lot of "hear-say chatter" but I don't want to find out the hard way that someone was wrong.

good luck,,they are tough to find,.. you may have to buy another junker ****gun to get a nice stock....and even worse they are numbered to the gun

No, the Remington stock won't fit the Savage. Just keep searching the auction sites, one will show up eventually.

Awesome, thanks as always guys! Of course, I just read this today which is a week after I bought a "semi inletted" Model 11 stock to try and fit to my 720. It's one of those things where you think it "might" work and the second you get the stock off and the new stock makes contact with the gun you realize just how different they are and that it would take an act of God or a master woodworker to make it fit. Well, looks like I need to find another Model 11 to go with this stock set I have : )

A Remington 11 fore stock WILL fit on a Savage 720. The only difference is the Remington stock has two alignment pins that mate up with the receiver. Otherwise, they are the same. Just remove the pins and you will be fine. You will need to check the fit where the magazine meets the receiver. The inletting looks a bit different but the stocks interchanged on the two shotguns I have right here......Now, if you have a Remington 11 Sportsman stock, it won't fit. The Sportsman only has a three round mag......chris3

OK I am holding my Savage 720 and my Savage / Springfield 745B and both the Stocks match .
So maybe you can find a 545B for a little less than the Milt. Sup. 720 like mine .
And save a little money by using the stock from it .

gumpire, good to know! Have you actually tried to put the Springfield stock on the Savage? Also, is it a 745B or a 545B? Not familiar with either model so I just wanted to be clear as you mentioned both in your post.
