Question 1903A3 Receiver and Barrel Index Marks ??

How far apart should the index marks be when you just hand tighten the barrel onto the receiver? Mine are .400" apart and it seems as though it would be hard to make them line up even with the proper tools.

Barrel is NOS; receiver is used.

    Thanks.

BTW, I did read Chucks post about this but cannot tell the exact distance the marks are from each other.

Hand tight is not an indication of "if" things will work out properly. The only way to know if it will pull up is to use the barrel vise and action wrench.

Hard for me to measure that, Jim. Only thing I can put a caliper on are the marks themselves. .400" apart.

i only use the 1/8 as a guide.
its been my experiance that if they are more then 1/8 apart, then indexing is tough, if not next to impossible, les then 1/8 then youlll be able to index, but not get the 75 lbs of pressue.
Thats not really a big issue, 25 to 75 lbs, is normal.
