    Some more information needed

Hi Peter I am trying to find the best way of doing the alignment and best way to seal up the compass so it can be preserved for the next generation.
At the moment I am practicing on a couple of Stanley G150 compasses that I got of Ebay for next to nothing and having a bit of fun doing it.

I am not yet sure what the best thickness O-Ring is to use so I have ordered some 39mm by 2mm as my question has not yet being answered
Failing that I will order some 39mm by 3mm O-Rings
What is the best Glow paint or glue to use so that I don't end up with a milky soup inside the compass?
Sources for the bigger Tritium lights the smaller ones are easy to find it's the bigger its the 4X9mm tritium light that I can't seem to find

I have a MK111 that has sentimental value as it belonged to my Grandfather who served in WW2 in the ANZAC's so I want to restore it to full working order but because it contains the Radium paint I am struggling to find someone that will work on it.
So I decided to give it a try but I don't want to mess things up. I was hoping with the vast knowledge and experience of the forum members I would be able to easily find the information

As usual I will waddle in and ask what are you trying to align, the compass aligns itself by its very nature to magnetic North/South as Peter said having a bubble in there your wasting your time I cleaned a couple of mine up using a syringe + long tube to get most of the gunk out of the bowl and refill with Isoprophyl as a dampening agent did a thread on it ages ago.
I did not want to open the bowls of them with radium present they are also a good distance from where I sit in my room

    Alignment

    Hi Cinders

The reason I opened this one is the night light has came loose on the compass card and was floating around in the compass bowl
If you look at the attached picture I am using the Camera App to align the pin at the bottom of the bowl with the pin that the compass needle rest on then I install the compass needle and lastly the glass and align the lubber line on the glass . The compass is clamped in place so it does not move during this procedure so I am making sure I have this alignment correct.

I looked at one where the compass bowl have not yet been opened and realised that the if I align the app with the lubber line the the needle was not fully aligned so that was an interesting observation

I still have questions about the thickness of the O-Ring in the one with the Bubble that was filled up again and it was good but I re-used the seal not a good idea

    So My Question was

Is this the same method everyone else is using of aligning it when they open the compass bowl?
Does anyone know the thickness of the O-Ring?
The following questions is avoid is based on the concern I have that Kerosene may dissolve the glue or paint.
Whats the best glue to stick down the night lights in the Kerosene?
Whats the best glow in the dark paint people have found as the Mark 111 has glow paint on the compass card rather than a night light?

You need Isoprophyl bloke hardware stores should stock it in 150ml bottles I think thats what Peter L said was the dampening agent ages ago from memory I got mine from Bunnings but seeing as your in the Sahara you may want to try the local Bazaar

    Pivot & nut

    Gents,

Apologies for resurrecting an 11 year old thread, (that i'd contributed to)

I've acquired another Mk111 prismatic compass in need of repair. On disassembly, I've found that the pivot pin the magnet sits on has corroded away completely, only the nut is left.

Any Aussies here have an idea where I could get a replacement locally ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Probably a clock-maker/water repairer of the old school could produce one for you.
