lanyard loop removal from MSH

Picked up a Colt 1911 a1 checkered MSH the other day, but the lanyard loop had been cut off. I got the pin out but the remaining studs won't budge. Any suggestions?

I just pulled mine out for a look and if you drift the pin out use the drift to pry the stub from the inside. The cut for the pin may allow you to get it out enough to grab the stub with real sharp pliers.

Try some air from a air gun with a small tip or nozzel .

If the methods listed above don't work, try a little penetrating oil (Kroil of equilivant) and let it set for a day or two. Secure the MSH in a padded vise with the pin holes up. Lightly tap the loop segments as if you are trying to drive them into the housing not out. What this will do is break any corrosion bond that may exist. Emphasis on the work lightly; if the pin doesn't move at all, don't pound on the pins! Inertia is our friend, on a surface that won't mar the MSH but offers a solid surface (as wood), sharply rap the MSH down to dislodge the pins. You have to leave enough gap for the pins to come out. Last resort is the application of heat to the MSH - the housing will expand as a slightly higher rate than the pins and then you can try the rap method again. The heat will also break down any bond between the pins and the MSH. Regards, H.T.
