Isreali BRNO 308 converted to .30'06

Isreali BRNO 308 converted to .30'06

did a search. any information on these rifles? I wanted to buy some parts but its not clear to me what to look under.

I bought a really nice BRNO 308 with the lion crest on the reciever. Over stamped with the 7.62. also burned into the butt was 7.62. its nice overall with a few minor dings in the stock most of the blue is still there. rechambered for .30'06. Have not shot it yet. $220.

alot of the other parts are german war proofed milled .

I want to get a few accessories for it like a front sight hood, sling cleaning rod ect. what do I call it when I shop for parts? Other than SARCO and Numrich does anybody else sell good quality parts for these rifles.

Are there any mauser specific forums.

would this rifle have been converted to 3006 by an importer? does anybody know who may have imported AND converted these riffles to 3006

alsoClearly as it was a 308 at one time the magazine follower is the shorter one for the 308 and the block was removed from themagazine. what is the correct magazine follower for a 3006? I'm thinking since it was 8mm first then 308 and now a 3006. maybe an 8mm follower is correct?

    thanks

Hard to believe any nation what have done the work. I'm guessing the work was done by a gunsmith. Amatuer or professional? No idea. Little gained by re-chambering a 7.62mm into .30-'06.

everything else I shoot is .30'06.

The question about rechambering: were any rechambered by vendors prior to selling these rifles to the public. I'm pretty sure the Isreali's did not do it.

anybody know the twist of these barrels. Its an isreali barrel dated 7/56

Are you sure that the barrel is Israeli made? Could be FN, but that doesn't really matter, because it will anyway have been cut to standard 7.62x51 dimensions, which means a twist rate of 1 turn in 12".

(That will also determine the "bullet most likely to succeed". Probably in the 150-180 gn range.)

And the missing parts are basically Mauser K98kicon parts. Quite a lot available.

Patrick, Thanks for the specifics. My Twist question was leading directly to a bullet wt question. Dont know if its an Isreali or FN barrel. Its dated 7-56 and Has letters/symbols that are clearly Hebrew. other than that I dont know? I'm betting its IDF. I'm going to have the rechamber job inspected by an gunsmith befor fireing it up. We'll see. my rifle is very Minty condition with very little shelf wear and I can tell it has not been fired much at all. Probably never been fired befor the 3006 job.

This is a very good site for mausers in general. I also troll the M1917 section too. There are a few others that have mauser dedicated sections. One I enjoy as much as this one is Parallax traders site. It breakes down the mauser section into various types. and specifically the Czechicon mausers with a wealth of information on the isreali and the persiansboth of which I have.

Try to find a gunshow. A nice 8mm follower will work just fine. I guess the magazine will be short as the rifles used 8mm rifles converted into 7.62mm. I'm thinking this rifle will be a 1-2 shooter. Norwayicon converted 200,000 Mausers into .30-'06. So it can be done. No one converted the 7.62mm version into a .30-'06.
