A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Reading the form it says sold without magazine. Does anyone know why no magazine?

Back then 100 magazines to a box by different makers had to sell for next to nothing. Even as late as 1989 you could still get sealed boxes marked Winchester. Inside 100 magazines marked BW, for $99. And that was 25 years later.

The Good Old Days For Me......

I was almost 5 years old when that carbine was delivered.
The Christmas after turning 9 (birthday is Dec 12th) I received my first set of Winchester Buffalo Bill 30-30 Commemoratives. A boxed set of two, rifle and carbine with consecutive serial numbers. A few years later my younger brother was also given the same set, that set was with out the original box and papers, but also never fired. Dads way of keeping the peace around the house. Years later my brother sold his set with out telling me. Still have mine in the original box with the sleeve that shows Buffalo Bills trials.
Just about every Christmas I'd get a new or nice used rifle. My Father loved the lever actions. Some of these were either Christmas or Birthday gifts.... with my birthday being so close to Christmas a gift would cover both,

Buffalo Bill Presentation in Walnut Presentation Case. 30-30 New
    Golden Spike Centennial, 30-30 New
    Cowboy 30-30, un boxed
    NRA Centennial Rifle, 30-30 New
Matched Set of 1,000 30-30 Carbine and .22 mag Rifle in a case, NEW/ Shared between my brother and I.
Annie Oakley, .22 long/ bought for my sister- given to me.
My pride and joy- A John Wayne "Duke" in the case, .32-40, new.
All of the above were to never be shot. I'm still keeping my promise. Tough to do when you were a younger guy.
But luckily he bought plenty of shooters for us. Old .22's, .410. anyone remember a .28guage?
Love the old pocket pistols.... .38 Special S&W M and P model of 1905, 2nd and 3rd change.
Both Nickel and Blued, square or round butt, checkered or hard grips. Even still have a few top breaks left over.

Now days........ the kids want video games and hi-tech phones when younger. Then better and better cars.
Remember when a $200 truck would get you thru a winter or 2?
Times didn't seem so hard and had more time than you could fill.
You never heard the words Fake and Gun used in the same conversation........
    What the heck happened?

    Charlie

Flower power/Viet Nam… what a freaking mess. I don’t think anybody came through that with their head on straight.

WW 2 the country came together. Viet Nam split it in half.
