A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. And a few more.

I've been interested in the different heel stamps that were used. They started big in 1941, went small in 1942, and back again large in 1945 and 1949/50. The Indians overstamped with a large, fat stamp.

I'd recommend this become a Milsurp article.

How about one for each maker?

I thought I recognized mine in there lol (limpet mine's 2nd post, 2nd picture from left). I have been trying to work out what finish is on the rifle as some people have said it was parkerized, but the rest of the receiver and barrel is definitely matt black, without any hint of grey that I have seen on other parkerized Long Branch Lee-Enfields.

With a few more marking variations, then this would be a great article
