Model 65 H&R Reising magazine release question?

Hi,

I have a Model 65 H& R Reising with serial #3588. I have seen in some parts documentation that there are two types of magazine catches/releases.

One early type is a small curving release lever and second is a straight catch without the lever. I've included some photos of the magazine area. Is this correct or is a part missing? The catch that is there looks fine under magnification. Does the curving magazine release lever slip over this or is this a later magazine release? I have seen Model 65s with just this type of release.

While I'm at it, I've taken this down for cleaning and there doesn't seem to be much of a finish any where on this weapon. Were some of these built with bare minimum protective finish?

Information would be great and if I do need a part, where might I get possibly get one.

James, It looks like these magazine release levers are a two piece affair and it appears to me that you are missing the end tab, the part with the grooves in it which makes it easier to release the magazine. Here are some photos of the magazine release on my Model 65.
Aren't these neat and unusual rifles? Way over built!

I'll set my sights on finding a replacement part. Is the protective finish on your rifle thin to non-existant, it doesn't look like there was much applied if any on my rifle.

The magazine release on my rifle (#3721) looks just like that on Kim's. It has a discolored and worn parkerized finish, but shoots very well. I enjoy taking it out to the range.

The finish on my rifle looks like both that are posted but I guess I never really thought of the finish as thin. Mine is a parkized greyish finish which looks like the same as yours. Good luck on finding that mag release part. I've never looked for that part but I'm sure one is out there on somebody's parts table. I have looked for the rear sight and spare magazines and found both without much problem so I figure there ought to be loose mag releases out there too. Here's one picture of mine:
