    Bren Gun Book. Good news...........

I've just heard from Brian Dickicon, who is at present at the SAR show in Phoenix (?) that he's been speaking to Rob Segel, the editor i/c at Small Arms Review (emmageeman@aol.com) that he's virtually finished the editing of the Bren book and ready to transfer to publishers disc. On that basis he told Brian, it should be ready for early spring next year. I've head it all before of course but at least it SOUNDS promising!

If you want to know more, email him and ask............ He commented that it's taken so fxxxxxg long because it's so fxxxxxg big!

SAR want to do a series of Bren Workshops at the SAR show next year. So any Bren fiends in the US.........., watch this space

His email address is up there. It's Rob Segel you need to email and not Brian, bless him!

The SARCON convention hosted by Dan Shea and the staff of Small Arms Review magazine and Long Mountain Outfitters will be held in Las Vegas in September 2011. The flyers are packed in my truck. I think the dates are the weekend of 11-15 September but I'll clarify when I can check the flyer again. All of you Bren and MG owners worldwide should plan to attend. I'll guarantee a good time will be had by all and it'll be a rare chance to meet and chat with Peter. The Bren book project has been a long hard road in the making. It will dwarf any other book ever written on the subject with Peter's unique writing style and endless attention to detail. I'll be back on the road east from Phoenix this week and in the shop open for business on Monday so don't hesitate to call or email me for information then. I don't mind as I want to help make it a huge success. ATB, Brian

Hey Brian, you've moved! The little blue dot thinggy below your comment shows that you live in Witchita in Texas. As a matter of interest, is this the Witchita of Witchita Lineman fame...... and not forgetting the Witchita Winch Co. Because there hangs a tale.......

In the mid 60's we used to have a fair few Lend Lease vehicles still in the UKicon Military system. One such type were Half Tracks that had a big jib on the front that used to lay from the front bumper over the rear of the cab and rear body. When in use, it would roll forwards and could be used as a crane. Ours was something like 25 YH 34 and under the bumber, protrudnng slightly was a huge winch, used to unbog the half track or just for use as a general winch and for use with the crane jib.

One miserable and wet day I got in to move the half track back a few yards because some clown had parked the OC's land rover right across the front and the half track turning circle was a bit like a sea going tanker....., but I digress. I got in and started it up, put it in reverse, revved up a tad, slipped the clutch and off it trundled FORWARDS a few feet, coming to a stop with the winch firmly embedded into the drivers door of the OC's Land Rover. He was NOT impressed. The funniest part about it all, after the shxx had stopped hitting the fan, was that clearly visible in reverse font were the words WITCHITA WINCH CO. WITCHITA TEXAS. LEND LEASE SUPPLIES

I had only ever driven it a few miles on the road the week before in order to take my 'track laying vehicle' test so I was hardly competent!

Where were we now......, ah yes, Brian, you've moved!

Well No, I haven't moved. Not yet at least but time will tell. I don't understand that at all. Maybe Doug can weigh in. I'm on the road as you know and sitting in a hotel on my laptop having a down day because i'm whipped from the show and have a long haul back to SC this week. Going for real beer batter Cod fish and chips tonight at my favorite Britishicon pub here. My diet starts next Monday!

I worked with a former U.S. Army tread head, (M1icon Abrams tanker), at Sea Ray Boats in Palm Coast, FL in the early 90's who accidentally ran over the OC's M151 command jeep which was parked where it wasn't supposed to to be on maneuvers in Germanyicon. Visibility in those days wasn't quite what it is now, especially at night. Needless to say, the OC wasn't happy either and there was a just a bit more damage than your little mishap as the M151 was as flat as a pancake. It's a good thing the driver and OC weren't in it!
