I had one of these a few years back. tried to look about to get the parts manufactured and spoke to Brian dick about it and he reiterated what he says above - small numbers, not worth it. large numbers brings the price down but you need to guarnatees th ecustomers to make it worth buying the materials. here in san francisco the chances of me meeting a machinist who fancies making gun parts is slim to none. Several owners have given up and adapted the C No. 7 parts to work. Take the Canadian .22 bolthead, CAREFULLY grind it to match the British No. 7's loading platform then take a No. 4 bolt VERY CAREFULLY measure and shorten it to the necessary length(MUST have correct head space), thread it to match bolt head(3/8 X 20 IIRC) install modified bolt head and go shooting. Not recommended for someone not experienced in such things, but it does work, and if by some miracle the correct parts do show up, the rifle can easily be set to the correct BRITISH No. 7 configuration.

But surely Jona, with all that effort, it'd be simpler to use the same effort put ones energies into making the extractor and axis pin (simplicity itself.....) and the auxiliary/support extractor (a teeny bit more difficult but a bit of flat spring material should suffice) and the firing pin (even simpler, converted from normal No8 or made afresh). The spring should be commercially available as lengths of suitable poundage rate.

Nope....., I think that it's a doddle. As for the ejector, well that'd need a bit more thought but still simple if the horizontal insert were fabricated onto the vertical plate.

The magazine is a bit like the current L14 SLR/FN sub calibre kit enigma. The outer and inner magazines are readily available(?) by the dozen. All you've got to do is have the interface plate made. Gauge it for height, fix firmly in place with soft solder, test and adjust until it's right then rivet.

Springfield Sporters sold some No.7 Mk.1's more than 10 years ago.

They lacked the unique bolt head, and also some other small parts.

Remaking the bolt head was beyond my capabilities.

I got it working again as a single shot.

I shortened the bolt from a regular No. 4, and modified a regular No. 4 bolt head to operate much like a No.2, .22 training rifle.

It makes less noise than most .22's, and shooting it is a surprising amount of fun.

The magazine is a standard BSA 22 magazine that has had the catch reversed, moved from the bottom to the top. Do not have one, so do not know if a "regular" magazine can be "reversed" easily.

I had seen BSA 'Sportsman 5' magazines advertised at up to GBP £100 so I actually bought a couple of Sportsman 5 rifles at £20 each, kept the mags and scrapped the rifles. - at least I've now got spare mags for my No7.

It is a standard mag with just the mag-catch reversed. Pics of modified and unmodified mags :

I know this is an old old thread but i had my no 7 completed. But gave my complete bolt up to someone i had promised knowing that my brother in law would make another for me. Then he up and died of cancer. Shame i have two BSA Sportsman 5’s with no mags now and a no7 without extractor and firing pin lol. Still searching for mags all this time.
