Auto Ordnance Army WW2 copy 1911a1 45acp

While out running errands after work I stopped at a different gun shop and to my surprise was able to and did order a Kahr/ Auto Ordinance 1911A1PKZ. It will be here next Wed/Thur. All for almost $100 less then the ones I saw on the internet sources. Be mindful that a he gave me a DAV discount as the store is run by VETS. I was contemplating $750 for a custom (5inch) Kimber but got the AO for $566 out the door. I be very happy thus far.


The others were $600+ FFL fee+shipping+ tax so all in all I'm glad I waited.

I am also anticipating a report. The A-O GI pistol used to have a problem with the front strap being too "square," which resulted in too much exposed flat in the sides forward of the grip panels. Springfield's GI replicas used to have this problem, too, but Springfield corrected it about a decade ago. I'm curious to know if Kahr/Auto-Ordnance has figured this out yet.

Took it to the indoor range and it shot very good. All targets were killed on the 1st shot at 25ft. It felt comfortable. The only prob was last round didn't feed on about 5 of the ten mag changes.( I have 6 new military surplus 7 rounders) I think it was the mags as its hard to limp wrist this heavy beast. I don't expect tight groups with these prehistoric sights but all were on target and once I got the feel I was able to group some tight ones ( les then 2 inch )

AB, I must have missed your comments. To answer your question I don't think they corrected the problem you are talking about. I took the 1943 Rem Rand and compared it to the new AO and they are not the same. The AO has about an 1/8 inch flat area from the front of the grip to the start of the round part of the front strap. Until you pointed it out I didn't even notice the differance, but now it's really noticeable. I still love this new gun it's one of my favorite hand guns. Like my jeep plain and utilitarian.
On this thread there is a picture of the AO and you can see the the flat spot you mentioned in the pic. Mine is the same.

Just tripped over this thread, and thought I'd pile on. I was looking for a shooter, but something as close to a WWII 1911A1, with no bill board markings, and as close to the experience as I could get.
I like the minimalist roll markings ad such, small sights, lanyard loop, lots of the small touches.

I haven't been able to swing a nice USGI 1911A1 collectible to date. And when I finally do, I think I'd be a bit hesitant to put a lot of range time on it. So over the last 2 years, been loving the Karh AO 1911A1. As accurate as my Pony 1911, sights one both are very well regulated with 230ball.

The reason to pile on here is, I've seen soo much ill written about it in other forums (was happy not to see that in this thread), cause the AO carried a bad rep from the time it as a Numrich part bin gun and it was a mess of a gun. Seems Karh has done a nice job of turning this nice repro around... I had a FTF problem that stuck around after break in. Karh AO turned it around within a week for me, sent it out Monday. Thursday back in my hands, perfect since.

Every thing works like a normal 1911 , but for one section of the take down.
There's one screw to remove and a pin. they lock the lobe on the barrel to the frame, relatively the same lobe that would be on the swing link, but on the GSG 22 it's integral to the barrel.

It's "odd to shoot" feels like a 45, works like a 45, and pull the trigger, and it's just odd to here the little "poof" and the ner nill re-coil and light action of the slide to the 22lr from this "45" your holding. But a blast to shoot at about 1/10 the cost for ammo.
I had two ACEs to pick from, I could have picked up one of 'em, but didn't have the funds for either. At the time the CMP ....... need say more, ... anyway the GSG is about 1/4-1/5 the cost of a ACE. But of course not the same level of pistol either, but fun non the less.

I have settled on the AO 1911. A friend has one he want 450 for it. he has shot maybe 2 mags through it. The big question is how do you tell it is one of the new AO's that is machined and not one that is the old forged frame? I know nothing about 1911's so be nice to me I am trying to learn.
