I notice it has the stamp in the wood to the left of the receiver also. Very good!

Inland die makers were good at what they did, but obviously they weren't professional typesetters. Even though the markings were applied before final heat treating, the service life of a stamping die was probably not very long. Not sure they could do the job with only one stamping fixture either. Let's see, 2+ million carbines, 800 production days, two 8-hour shifts; that's about 24 seconds to stamp each receiver. Their max production month would allow only 12 seconds per stamping. Would be interesting to look for variations between closely grouped serial numbers.

Today the specified marking would come as a computer file and all makers' markings would be identical. In that period when the stamping die wore out the die maker would create a new one with layout by the eyeball method.

Is that stamp on the wood unique to Inland stocks? I've seen it on one or more of mine but never knew what it signified.

Here's an old post with what looks to be the same stamp. Also some other links provided by USGICOLLECTOR with some other markings.

I found it by using the Google search box and typed in Ducks Foot.
Much quicker way to search the older posts.
Thanks for mentioning this feature Badger !
