Sellier and Bellot ammo vs privi partizan

Remember somone saying that Sand B ammo was .310 in Diameter and that privi partizan was Boat tailed therefore not so good for older bores.

Is S&B boat or flat tailed (the 180gr FMJ stuff) and what is the diameter of the PP ammo?

Then next question.... which is going to have a bigger effect on accuracy, having a larger Diameter to engage the rifling OR having a flat tail. Just about to start reloading but I have to buy some commercial ammo first.

Are you talking ammunition or bullets alone ?

You'll be lucky to get 2 reloads (3 firings) out of S&B. Its the thinnest brass in the world.

Prvi brass tends to be around 0.060" / 0.062" rim thickness whilst S&B is nearer 0.056" (that'll increase your effective headspace by 4 thou, add to the thin walls and you'll be splitting cases faster than you can reload them.
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

I agree. S&B brass is crap. As far as bullets go, I have had good luck with round-nosed bullets in worn bores. First, though, slug your barrel to determine what diameter bullet you need.
    Good shooting,

As to bullets, all the S&B stuff that I have come across is steel jackted.

Try the Prvi Soft point ammo, if you're concerned that the FMJBTs won't group acceptably- But I'd try them as well before making a bulk buy. If you don't reload, then the S&B might be OK, but the last time I pulled any bullets from them, they were FMJBTs as well. No joy w/ the new Kynoch ammo?

The South African Milsurp ammo was FMJBT as well, but it shoots fine in most of my No.4s.

You're pretty much either gonna have to load your own or use a soft point ammo of some sort- which MAY decrease reliability ifn some cases.

ETA: Sorry, the Prvi SPs are boat tailed as well.

The BT projectiles tend not to upset very well in worn bores.
The FNM brand uses a 185gn FB bullet. We cannot use HPs or SPs here.

Portuguese, yes? Haven't seen any of that maker's ammo in .303" for, well, a VERY long time! Great 7.62x51 ammo, though. Some good 7,5 Swissicon ammo as well.

    Some ammo that was handy:

Mostly BT bullets! Choices are limited if you don't reload.

Pakistani, Britishicon (bagged), and South African. The Paki stuff is mostly click-bang, but the bullets themselves aren't bad.

That is my experience too! The PRVI over here is cheaper than the S&B and you can use their cases a long time. I use a combination of the PRVI cases and the 180grs S&B BT bullets with great success.

This is S&B 180gr steel core fmj. The casing does not attract a magnet but the bullet does as you can see. I don't reload but I have found this to be accurate enough for off the shelf ammo. I do believe the SA PMP to be better, though. Both appear to be boxer primed.
