    1903A4 W/Lyman Alaskan

Haven't been here for a while but had a question about the 1903A4. I have one that has a Lyman Alaskan "B" series cross hair commercial scope that is electro-penciled with the last four of the weapons serial. The question would be, what would the nomenclature of the scope be, i.e. M73, M81 etc? I know the history of the rifle back through 2 owners to Poyers shop in the mid '80's. Opinions? Thanks, Bruce.

You may wish to direct this question to Bob Seijasicon who has written on the subject of the the Alaskan and variations as used on the M1icon snipers. I believe he is a member of milsurps but mainly on the M1 forum.

I am not sure the "B" series Alaskans really have a military designation. Also, except for US Sniper rifles issued to foreign govts under MAP's, I am not aware of scopes being numbered to the rifles. But you learn something new every day!

    Regards,

    Jim

I have the #B5774 and it has just the commercial markings. I purchased this scope about 25 or 30 years ago at Brock's Army Surplus based in Decatur, GA, and I am quite sure of his military origin.

Chuck, Unfortunately, when you get the rifle without them, you have to resort to Parsons and get ones that fit. Besides, I think, from what I've read in Harrison's Garandicon book, though I couldn't tell for sure since I left the book at home, was that the later M81 & M82 were the ones with the dwg #. Cheers, Bruce.
