A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Are you talking about doing it yourself or a gunsmith location? It wouldn't be the thing for a first timer to just up and undertake. It can be very dangerous !

Rust blue is quite safe, I dont bother with acid etc, just use salt. If its a one off etc, would go this route but time and patience needed.

book to get is, Firearm Blueing and Browning. By R H Angier.

Page 62, Salammoniac brown. Wil be posting a thread on this soon. (just to show how easy it is)

hot salts blue and rust blue are 2 totally different issues...
unless you have deap pockets, good heath, and lots of patiance i would advise the average person to attempt hot salts blue..
rust blue however is something that can be done, lots of time, and patiance is needed. make sure you wear safety glasses and good rubber gloves.
and make sure your MRS is out on a week bingo tour...

Check on Caswell (cold process) and Du-Lite (hot process). I have both here. Cold is much cheaper. Hot is pretty steep - about $3000. Both work.
