I have a June of 44' Garand , but ive never seen barrell markings like thease. I was told they were done when the Army put on a new barrel, are they right?

Can anyone take a stab at it?

No expert but if I remember correctly: the small 'P' is a pre-assembly proof mark, the large 'P' is a post assembly proof mark. No idea on the 'H'.
That would be the strangest date marking, I have seen on an M1. I have a hard time believing that they would mark the actual day, that the barrel was made.

The WWII barrrels have their markings under the handguard, on the top of the barrel. The "8-5-44" looks questionable to me. Pull the handguard and post those markings.
