Talk about a contrast. From battles that lasted a day, with all units in the area, to battles that lasted days and then merely shifted from point to point with different units.

The first book covers the operations of the US 7th Army which formed part of the 6th Army Group, and operated on the right of the allied line in europe. The other part of tis army group was the French 1st Army. On the left of the 7th Army was General Patton's 3rd Army.

Very little has been written about the 7th Army, mainly due to the fact that the writers of the time were more concerned with the 'glamour' of General's Patton, Bradly and Montgomery. So the 7th, became a 'forgotten' army.

Yet it fought german units, of comparable size, and effectives, across the Vosges Mountains, with only limited air support, and into and through the Maginot line! Something that the germans had not been able to do in 1940!

The other book will take you back in time to the 18th/19th century. How did Napolean use his troops, in detail, to vanquish his enemies. How did those tatics evolve? This book examines the evolution of the armis, on both sides and studies infantry, calavry and artillary tactics.

Both books have photos, maps and diagrams for additional explinations!
