Price range for an Arisaka Bayonet?

I was at a local show today and ran into guy selling several Arisakaicon bayonets. Prices ranged from $89-120 depending on conditions and he said he could give me a deal. He seemed an honest guy, but I don't trust myself to spot a repro (especially with something that is SUPPOSED to be of Asian manufacture).

Are there some obvious red-flags (other than 'too new?') I only have GunBroker as a guide; fair price range for bayonets in scabbards? I have a Type 38.

He gave me his card so I can find him again.

He also had original cleaning rods for $65 and period ammo on stripper clips. I don't personally go in for vintage ammo, but the rods were interesting. I just can't bring myself to pay almost a 1/3rd of what I paid for the rifle!

Really haven't seen any repos of the arisaka bayonet, at shows the bayonet on average is very common. Trainers can be had for 20-30. Alot depends on the markings and shape of the pommel. Saw a tokyo arsenal one today I could have bought it for 40 with scabbard in decent condition. About 7-8 years ago these were 80-90 dollars but recently the bottom has dropped out of the Japaneseicon bayonet market(except for rare varients).

THere are several reproductions out there, some good some appaling. the Chiense ones tend to be over rusted or nice mint and blued, have alook at the arisaka page on my site made up by a serieous Arisakaicon colelctor it will show what they shoudl look like, I have at least one of the fakes on my Film bayoent page as it was sold as used in Windtalkers

True forgot about the Chinese fakes (check out ebay). If it is comming from China it is 99.9% a fake. I have not seen them appearing at any local shows though. Most likely because they cost more with shipping than you can get a real one for. Remember price for a real arisaka will depend on condition. Minty ones still command a better price as with all collectables. If you really want a trat or are serious about collecting them get Ray LaBars book Bayonets of Japanicon. It is still available but becoming scarce
