Question US marked Winchester riot 1937 vintage

I just purchased a winchester 97 riot in the 850 000 serial range made in 1937. It conforms in every way to the world war I specs. Stock magazine attachment method, slide markings, barrel markings etc. The barrel is marked cyl and is identical to my world war I trench in every way except it has a bursting bomb on the top. I thought it might be a WWII replacement barrel, but it is not marked 2/3/4 shells and does not have the winchester trademark. Also The barrel date under the barrel is from 1937. The reciever is marked US and bursting bomb hand stamped, as my WWi. trench. The blue is original about 85%.I have pictures and issue paper work showing the quartermaster sgt, whose son i bought it from, with the gun in Panama 1942. The gun stock is stamped Fort Sherman CZ 'Canal Zone" and PRR "Pannama Rail Road. I have issue paper on the gun. The man brought it home from the war. I have no doubt it is authentic, but I can find nothing about markings of military riot guns between the wars, other than that some guns were hand stamped in the twentys. This gun is clearly hand stamped and from the late 30's. None of the books cover the guns between the wars? Anybody have one similar or know something about this period?

Try posting at Joustericon.com. This person was trying to sell it there. There are members that may have some history of shotgun there.
