    New Norwegian K98

I glommed a Norwegianicon K98icon and a few others at an auction tonight.

    The auction description advised:
    98 Rifle. 7.62 cal. SN:HAER-95320. Nazi stamped, 243 action, restamped to 7.62mm

I know the pics are poor and description is a little sparse...but I wanted it..

I know a lot is condition dependent, but what do these Norwegian K98's usually go for? I rarely see them for sale.

    Thanks

Gosh, I got mine fro Paragon Sales 10 years back. Seldom see them anymore. I would guess anything under $350.00 would be a steal. I understand Norwayicon recalled these rifles from the Army and Militia and destroyed them. Won't be seeing any here.

I bought mine through a local dealer back in the late 80s. He ordered it for me from S.O.G.. It was sold as "all matching", but to convert to .30-'06 (Kal 7.62mm) the barrel was replaced by a new one, and with it the rear sight base, the balance all matches. The magazine box was lengthened and the receiver notched for the longer .30-'06 cartridge. I have turned down $750.00 for this like new rifle.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I went on vacation right after winning this item and a few others and am just getting back. This one, an 1891 Argentineicon and a Finnishicon M91 all supposed to arrive today.

    Hi Steve,

nice find. The Norwegians had a lot of them in use and the .30-06 version aren´t bad. The last one i´ve seen for sale was at $210 direct from Norwayicon.

    Thanks, Ulrich

My rifles arrived today, including this Norwegianicon K98icon.

The Norwegian serial number is 95320 and the original German serial is 3884. The Norwegian serial number appears on the receiver "flat" and the butt plate. The last three digits, "320" of the Norwegian serial appear in the bolt handle root.

The German serial numbers seem to appear about everywhere else..the bolt release, seen above.
    The barrel bands

The trigger guard and action screws

    The sight base and slide

And even possibly the extractor, which has the numbers "38" on it. Bore is shiny and sharp

I recall reading an article years ago about them. The Germans sent in a very large garrison and kept them in-country until May 1945. Most of the troops got there fairly early in the war, so most of the K98icon's will show early dates. Something like 300,00 troops and something like over 200,00 converted into .30-'06. Also many rifles broken into parts kits. They were recalled many years back and were in reserve status, all greased up. All destroyed under the SALT Agreements. Not many left, I'm afraid. I understand the Norwegianicon Rail Road security had G33/40's all converted into .30-'06. Also understand the Norwegian Navy kept their K98's in 8mm. Must still be some over there, but nothing like 200,000. Not anymore.
