Bubba is the guy who takes a $300 milsurp and "improves" it, generally through the ill-use of hand tools like files, chisels and hacksaws. He excels in turning the $300 milsurp into a $150 "sporter".

Commercial conversions, like Parker-Hale .303 sporters are not considered Bubba's.

Here's some more detail for your answers ...

"BNP" ".303" "2.22" on barrel and under that is either "18.5 or 18+ or 184 TONS" .... means that your rifle was tested for safety by Birmingham Proof House showing caliber and chamber length. As required by British law, any firearm offered for commercial sale (regardless of military proofing) has to undergo a pressure test. Passed firearms were stamped, usually on the barrel and receiver.

"NP" was the Birmingham Nitro Proof between 1912 and 1954 and "BNP" is the Birmingham Nitro Proof after 1954

"Englandicon" is sometimes seen on Enfield Riflesicon and it's the British private export mark pre-1968

S 6105 is the serial number of the rifle and it seems to indicate that it was originally manufactured BSA (Birmingham Small Arms), as that serial number range was assigned to them.

    Regards,
    Badger

    BUBBA's TOOL KIT
    Dull hacksaw
    Dull chisel
    Coarse rasp
    Extra coarse sandpaper
    Elmer's epoxy
    Phillip's head wood screws
    Paint, usually black or brown
    Wire wheel and brush
Duct tape(for fixing cracks in stock, and replacing screws)
    Black electrical tape(substitute for above)
    Broken knives(for removing screws)

Did I forget anything? These are just the things I have seen used, and I forgot about the rifle that the guy COVERED in linseed oilicon! I got it for free, I wonder if it was worth all that work! Has anyone ever tried removing hardened linseed oilicon? GAK!

Yes! You forgot the "aircraft hose clamps" and the red, green and blue "Loctite*".

I should have remembered that, too! I saw a Cooey once that was held into the stock with one of those clamps!

Nor are some of those by well-qualified gunsmiths.

I have a "sporter" built up on a 1907 Spandau Gew '98, just after WWII, that would bring tears to the eyes of a Mauser collecter, but it is superbly crafted. On the other hand I also have a badly bubbaed M1917 Enfield that is as ugly as home-made soup. Each gives me fist-sized groups at 100 yards, which is all I care about. I'm a shooter, not a collector.

HAH! "Ugly as home-made soup" I love it!

Just thought I'd mention how well those hose clamps work as scope rings
