L1A1 zeroing adjustment, iron sights and SUIT sight?

Does anyone have any figures for zeroing the L1A1?

What is the movement of MPI, at 100yds, by adjusting the front and rear sights by 1 revolution?

Similarly, does anyone have any figures for adjustments to the SUIT sight? R<->L at the rear, E<->D at the front?

    Many thanks,

    Charlie

BDLicon in SC has a pile of new L1A1 user handbooks containing everything you ever need to know. But briefly, 1 complete turn of the foresight blade or backsight adjusting screw will alter the PoA by 4" at 100 yards (or a half turn for 2" and so on)

    Hi
sorry I'm not Peter ( he gets to shoot old guns........ I have to put up with the 40mm machine gun!!!!!)

SLR iron sight adjustments... at 100m
vertical adjustment 1 complete turn of the foresight = 100mm
lateral adjustment 1 complete turn of the adjusting screw =100mm

    SUIT sight at 100m

    vertical adjustment 1 graduation = 100mm
    lateral adjustment 1 graduation = 100mm

this is from a hand written guide from the Shool of Infantry "Guide to the art of coaching on the range"

Again sorry I'm not Peter (but he is not living next to the THEAKSTONs brewery.....)

But I'm still in Imperial time zone where more up to date Skippy is a metric man.

It used to annoy my son when I used to help him with his physics homework in Imperial............, you know pounds/foot and all that instead of metric newton/metres. But anyone that's got an L1A1, please treat yourself to a user handbook just like the one you get with your car - but better

    Zeroing L1A1

    Thanks chaps!

My copy of the 'User Handbook for the Rifle, 7.62mm., L1A1 - Land Service 1959', has info on zeroing on page 40, and appears to be incorrect: 'Elevation - 1 complete turn of the foresight will move the MPI 2" at 100 yards', which is why I thought I'd better check on this knowledgable forum. I'd better get BDLicon's book!

With a bit of luck, I may be able to try this out in the next few weeks.

    ATB,

    Charlie

(PS I don't have any brewerys nearby... and the pub's closed too!).

It's all on P.75 of the 1977 user handbook including the SUIT sight info.

I can't believe that this basic info would be incorrect in the user handbook.......... even the original one. I bet there were a few range staff jumping up and down when they found the handbook was wrong! What does the Blue Infantry Training Pamphlet say Tankie/Skippy.

I dont have a L1A1 user hand book .... but the original information published in the Blue Book for the L85A1 (SA80) with regards to iron sight adjustments and point of aim for the SUSAT were changed ....
AND THEY (SASC) STILL REFER TO THE FULLER AS A BLOOD GROOVE!!!!!!!!! (on the bayonet)

Hey......., don't think that we didn't believe you, but wrong by so much............. Anyway, now you know!

Anyone out there collect the L1A1 bayonet variables? Or should I be asking on the edged weapons thread?
