    30-40 Krag Identification

This 30-40 cartridge has a FA 1904 headstamp and the bullet is lead - note the special crimp.

Can anyone identifiy this cartridge (guard duty or training ? )

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Looks like a guard cartridge. Refer toHistory of Modern U.S>.Military Small Arms Ammunition 1880-1939 Vol.Iby F.W.Hackley,WH Woodin &E.L..Scranton Chapter 7. Local Library used to shelf it and had a decent selection of Arms ammo and related subject items. They were taken off the shelf around 2001 Hope this helps
