I'm Tired of that Bayonet Lug

I have a nice Inland 1944 with a great walnut after market stock and I love it. Except for the bayonet lug and sling attach ring which to me are irritants. So, I'm thinking of cutting the barrel band just forward of the hand guard to rid myself of these useless parts.

Will I be able to get the front sight off without a special puller?
    Will I be sorry later?

I would really would prefer to keep this particular band because it fits just right.

Any insight into this issue would be appreciated.

Better use a front sight tool. Why not just buy a repro type 2 or 1 band?

If you can't find a suitable repro, buy a T3 and cut it, saving your original. Yes, you need the tool. Post your location and maybe someone with one in your area will volunteer to help.

I wouldn't do a thing to it if it was mine. Just my two cents worth.

Hello Ham. Irritants are bad. Happiness is good. Do something the sooner the better....life's too short. Regards, Rick.

Here is my special tool for front sight removal. Fill a small container with PB Blaster, let the sight soak for a few days. Take a chunk of hardwood.....I use Bubinga and cut a slot thru the middle with your table saw. Remove the pin and align the slot with the alignment key and tap tap tap. Presto. Regards, Rick.

Sometimes this will not work always. But many times it will. Wood to metal not metal to metal. Drill a hole in hard wood to drive the sight on.

sakorick and Bubba-7, thanks, now I don't need no stinkin tool.

"Irritants are bad. Happiness is good. Do something the sooner the better....life's too short. Regards, Rick."

Rick, I love you man. It took me eight decades to learn the truth in that adage and I still need occasional reminders.

    Regards,

    HAM
