Griffein & Howe - modified NRA Sporter ?

I have just purchased an NRA Sporter that has been 'uprgaded' by 'Griffin & Howe'. It is a very nice rifle in beautiful condition. I THINK it began life as an NRA Sporter -( s/n1288xx). Can anyone check for S/Ns in that range??

The rifle has a re-shaped stock, checkering and a ebony forend tip. A shame to have modified an NRA sporter but it is done very nicely. How could I confirm it was done by Griffin & Howe? Are there likely to be any markings that would confirm this?

The rifle is in the ten day wait. I will post pics when I have possession.

    TIA

    Eric

You might give G&H a buzz on the phone. Not sure what records they still have.

Well, it is not an NRA Sporter. S/N is wrong, bolt is not etched with s/n and no star on the barrel. It may still be a G & H rifle. I wiil take your advice and contact them.

It is a nice rifle, however.
