    National Postal Meter Carbine

I have aquired an early (1477XXX) NPM carbine w/ an Underwood 8/43 barrel. I have two questions that I hope someone here can help me with. The carbine has an adjustable rr sight that is marked with a "3" on top and "I.R.CO. 7160060" on the right side. Who was the sight manufacturer? And secondly, the stock. It is marked "NPM" above "FJA" in a square box on the right side butt and along side of that what appears to be something like a very faint nautical wheel. On the left butt arranged in three vertical rows are the letters "TD ROD WH". In the sling well there is the word "TRIMBLE" and a "TN". What does all of this mean?? Sorry, just thought of another one. I have been given a DOM of May '43, but does the 8/43 barrel push that date back or mean that the barrel was refit during re-arsenal job?? Thanks so much in advance. Sorry to be a pain.

The rear sight would not be original to that carbine, i think the company was called International Registrar Company. Your stock has the correct cartouches for a NPM carbine, if the stock still has those stamps visible and clear that is a plus for value. The 3 sets of intials are the reminants of a Standard Products rebuild mark. I dont have any books with me with me, but I think an 8/43 barrel would be a little late for that gun. Since it is a rebuild, its kind of a moot point anyway. What kind of barrel band does it have?

forgot, Trimble is the name of the company that made the stock. Pics would be nice, its always cool to see some nice cartouches.

Maybe your barrel date is good, my 1.49 has a 11/43 barrel.

Don't know how to answer the barrel band question other than it is stamped sheet metal 0.700" wide. Most of the cartouches are light, the apparent nautical wheel is almost invisable. The "TRIMBLE TN" is the only one readily visable. Don't know if they will photograph and, being computer illiterate, have no idea how to upload.

On the barrel band: where is the screw to loosen it, side or at the bottom? Is there a bayonet lug underneath the barrel? If it is on the side facing down, it is a type 1, at the bottom with no bayo lug, a type 2, w/bayonet lug a type 3.

MPD your barrel is a replacement as your serial number is in the same time frame of about May 1943.
