    Came across some vintage ammo

A friend of mine gave me a bunch of boxes of old military ammo yesterday. I think I figured out the triangular boxes, they are Russianicon 7.62x54r that was repacked by the Finnishicon. The two with the little shoelace opener are Italianicon(I am not sure exactly what 7.35 is)and there is some Mexican that are marked 8mm with an ink pen. I think the shells with a 56 and a star headstamp are Isreali 8mm if the ink pen marks are correct. If I've wrongly identified any of these or if someone can shed some more light on these can someone let me know? Thanks.

You have Israeli 7.92mm with the * 56 date, the 7.35mm is for the Carcano M1938 carbine and the rest you have identified. Years ago the Israeli was re-forumed to 7,62x51mm (I have some examples) and the 7,35mm carcano was used for 7.62x39mm Russianicon after reforming. Nothing really rare but all interesting, the 7.35mm Carcano is difficult to find now.

Carcano ammo in 6.5 at least was manufactured in the States following War Two. A bunch was surplused in the 1960s and gladdened the hearts of all of us who owned Carcanos and wanted reloadable brass. Nice stuff but awful fireballs out of a Carbine! Problem was guys bringing SKSs back from 'Nam so it ALL got reformed into 7.62x39; it is only in the last year in Canadaicon that reasonable-priced Carcano brass has been available..... from Serbia. The Italians decided that they wanted a higher-velocity rifle in the 1930s,so they used the same old tooling to keep making the basic Carcano, pened out the casing and stuck in 128-grain flatbase more-or-less pointed bullet of .300" diameter...... and they had the 7.35mm. It was a MUCH better midrange cartridge than the PPatr 39 7.92x33, the 7.62x39 43-goda or the .30 M-1 Carbine round. It is the same diameter as the Russianicon casing and actually (in the 6.5mm version) the parent of the Arisakaicon casing as well as the Greek MS. Likely it should be respected as the ancestor of all assault-rifle rounds. The ammo you have is Berdan-primed, original Italianicon stuff from War Two. Hang onto your clips at least; they are getting hard to find.

You have the basis here for a fine collection of ammunition with very real history behind it: Italian Carcano stuff, Israeli Mauser ammo, Mexican 7x57, Finnishicon reserve ammo as well.

    Interesting.

I have never seen or heard of examples of this with Israeli ammo. Please post pics of the rounds and box.

Smellie, was the U.S. manufactured 6.5 Carcano ammunition you speak of made by Winchester? If so not all of it got reformed to 7.62x39.
