OT: combat shooting where it's come from and where it's heading

Got this link from the Australianicon Army. Found it interesting in so far-as it relates to my MilSurps Service Rifle shooting and effectively marksmanship(musketry) principles that are older than my lithgows.

    http://www.army.gov.au/docs/Pratt_An...erspective.pdf

    favorite quote:
Four power optic does not improve shooting immediately, it amplifies poor shooting technique by four.

Thought it might be of interest to my fellow marksmen, and marksmen collectors.

What was interesting in the WO2's paper was his belief that today's Digger trained from day one with the light calibre (5.56) F88 isn't able to shoot well with the harder recoiling 7.62 rifle.

    Two thoughts:
    1. I have to wonder what the old (WWI, WWII, Korea, Malaya, VN) Diggers who put thousands of rounds through the F88's predecessors would say?
    2. It seems to me the easy answer is to give the young blokes more trigger time with .303 (if there are any in Stores these days) or 7.62mm rifles.
