Yup Sub MOA. I didn't expect that at all. Using the HXP I got the normal 2-3 inch group.

I took a 10 - 15 minute break to let it cool down. Then, just for the heck of it, loaded three Hornady Match rounds that I had remaining from having sighted in my M1903A1 for an upcoming vintage military rifle match. I fired each round cycled from the mag, didn't even check the impacts with my spotter scope until I had fired all three rounds. When I did look, my first words where "Holy S**T!" That Hornady load with the 168gr A-MAX bullet is awesome.

Now here is the best part.

This rifle is a "bubba gun" that somebody had tried to sporterize. I paid near next to nothing for it, was sort of looking at it as a parts gun for my other 1903s. After cleaning it up, figured I would test fire it to see how it would group. You have seen the results, which I have since repeated.

Here it is in all of its bubba gun, redneck gunsmithing glory.





I'm getting together all of the parts to bring it back into USGI condition.

I'm getting together all of the parts to bring it back into USGI condition.

My daddy always said; “If it aint BROKE, don’t FIX IT!”. I would adjust the sights for POI and leave it alone. If you try to fix it up, who knows how bad it will group. I would rather have an UGLY STICK, that groups like that, than a beautiful SAFE QUEEN that groups like a shot-gun!

Oh I agree, and that won't be a problem - - - No Safe Queens in my house.

The cut down stock in the picture was discarded a long time ago. The group was made using an old beat up type S stock that I had recovered from a drill rifle several years ago.

This morning I brought out two of my M1's, both shot great at 100 yards, I do need some relief work on one due to a milled trigger guard I installed ( won't latch solidly).

Installed the new SC bolt sleeve for my 1903A3 and took a few warm-ups before I shot the target below, 100 yards using HXP 66; the flyer was intentional as I was trying to get closer to the X).



It helps my aim if I use a shoot-N-C pasted over the 100 yard small bore target.

I doubt the grasshopper located at about 10 o'clock was there when I was shooting!

G'Day everyone.
Yesterday was a top day, there was little wind and had I nothing better to do so I went to the rifle range.
The main reason I went was to work out where my No4Mk2[F] was shooting at 100,200 and 300m after installing a PH 8/53 sight.
Not a bad sight but I am undecided if it provides any advantage over the original sight, it covers up the elevation on the rear sight so you have to mark new elevation once you find them or count the clicks up from zero and go from there. Well that's what I do anyhow.
"PLEASE NOTE" I am not sure if this thread is a competition or just used as a reference to see how all the old girls shoot so if this reply to the thread is incorrect for any competition rules and should be elsewhere can the powers that be move or delete the reply.
These 100m targets were shot in the order shown with sight changes between targets , the load is Rem case, Rem primer, 43gns 2209 and Sierra 174 match to anyone interested.

Greetings from heat ravaged central Texas with a hope this works. I can shoot fairly well, add and subtract, done been to a county fair and a sheep dipping but I am frustrated beyond reason trying to send some pictures via the internet.
Thanks to bigduke for the opportunity and motivation to drag my milsurps out of the closet and see if they will shoot.
Started with the 1917 Enfield by Eddystone and it surprised me! One picture is my first target for the competition. It is also the first 6 rounds from the rifle in a very long unknown time as I have had it for over 10 years and never fired it. Yes it is the first 6 as the very first round did not leave a hole. The hold was 6:00, slow fire off a bench with the as issued sights for a category 1 effort
The ammo used was Korean surplus 30-06 head stamped KU 73. I'll pull a round soon and send particulars for those curious/interested.
As matter of interest/excuse I have found that range conditions ofttimes drive me away. I stop shooting when: the temperature on the bench in the shade reaches 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the mirage prevents spotting the holes, or the wind blows the ammo boxes over. Last outing temp reached 100 F at 11:30am.
