    Whats YOUR OPINION ............. ???

I bought a 1950 No.4 Mk1* about 6 weeks back. The original owner was a member of the DCRA back in the 60-80's and had converted this piece for target use. Rather than use the PH5c for the No.4, he utilized a PH5a rear sight that he slightly modified. With the 5a, he tapped and threaded a hole on the left side of the wrist. The rifle itself is in exquisite condition (just in the process of cleaning it), but was thinking of either leaving it "AS-IS", or changing to the 5c............what do you think ?

What's wrong with as is. I'll bet it shoots like a house on fire. Give this some time. It may grow on you as is...

Pictures would help greatly in making a decision. Not that I am even remotely knowledgeable in such things. I do like looking at pictures of rifles though.

Looks to be a sturdy installation. If it works as it is supposed to why mess with it? Besides you would have an ugly hole to fill if you changed it.
Very nice looking rifle you have there by the way.

Very nice, I personally wouldn't change it. Holes you can fill, but you won't be able to match that nice finish without a lot of work.
Also, yours is the first rifle I have seen with a front sight cover. Were these something fitted as an aftermarket thing or were they fitted to Long Branch rifles only as I have one on my Long Branch.

    Sight

    AND YOUR PROBLEM IS........................?

I would not change a thing on this rifle. It is set up the way the original owner wanted it, and obviously he had his reasons. As mentioned, it will probably shoot very well if you can do your part. And really, what will the 5c do that the 5a will not and why is that important enough to want to change a perfectly good system?

I might even speculate here that the previous owner used the Number 1 Mark III rifle before he got this one. With such use, he would have gained experience and most of all FAITH in the PH 5a sight.

Any member here would gladly accept this rifle. You are the chosen one!

However, if you absolutely feel that you MUST part with it, because is has a different sight on it, you can send it here to me in Manitoba. I will even split the costs of shipping with you.

For BEARCLAW, front sight protectors were a standard item that you could purchase from Parker Hale. I had them for the Number 1 SMLE, the Number 4 Lee Enfield, and the p-14 Enfield Riflesicon.
