Cal. .303" SAA Ball Circa 1981

Hmmm, I'm pondering for whom these rounds were intended :

"Covert aid" just wasn't all that covert, it seems.

Let's see . . . 1981, a proud nation with fierce tribesmen who know how to handle a Lee-Enfield, a hated foreign invader. Where could it be?

One wonders how much of this stuff is now flying back at sons and daughters of folks who made it. Gives a deadly twist to the old "goes around - comes around."

These were produced by Winchester to fill an Irish contract. The Republic of Ireland it seems was running low on .303" Ball with which to supply its reserve troops and cadet forces that were still armed with Enfield Riflesicon and .303" chambered Brens. I ended up with a box of them some years ago and originally had the same idea that they were for "Covert aid" as well, but asked the question here: International Ammunition Association The home of the International Ammunition Association, and the knowledgeable members there came back with the information and documentation that confirmed that it was indeed for Ireland. So despite my ideas that they were intended to be sent to some wild, outlandish looking, bearded tribesman to shoot at invading Sovieticon forces, alas they were merely sent to the Emerald Isles.

IVI turns it out for the Canadianicon Rangers from time to time.

.303 might be old but it still does the job.
